Abstract

Analysis of summer/fall 2015 accidents in the White Mountains of New Hampshire found many slips on cool, damp rocks. Accidents included: Hikers seeking Owls Head turned back at swollen Franconia Brook on May. On August 11, a teenager died after being swept under Franconia Brook, which was rising fast following heavy rain. In October, an experienced hiker was swept away by the swollen Gale River and died. Bad weather on August 11 trapped a hiking group on Mount Madison. Mishaps on Mount Monadnock in southwestern New Hampshire. A helicopter rescued a man who collapsed on the Falling Waters Trail and later died. A Galehead Hut crew member describes a rescue on South Twin. Two carryouts, one on the Greenleaf Trail and one on Mount Chocorua.
