"I study sea ice, an important part of the global climate and our ecosystem. Sharing my research with all communities of interest is important to engaging people around environmental problems. My first open access paper was more widely read and received more citations than the rest of my publications put together. But to be honest, I publish open access because I believe that together we are more than the sum of our parts."
