Abstract
Microsoft has developed a Linux OS for use with first-party cloud and edge devices. Now it is evaluating the idea of releasing this solution commercially in the future. Given this context, the Edge OS team is interested in understanding key players in the Linux IoT OS space and the potential markets for the distribution as a third party device offering. During my internship, I performed a competitive analysis around the most popular Linux distributions used for container workloads, detailing their business models, and performing a technical comparison between them. Moreover, I determined which verticals are suitable by studying different markets.
