Abstract
RAIS Financial is a platform to provide accessible microloans to business ventures in the developing world, crowdfunded by retail investors. The core product is a mobile application, which allows potential borrowers to share their story, and request loans, as well as for lenders to fund those loans at an interest rate suggested by RAIS. The backend for the application is built in FastAPI in a cloud-agnostic manner. It is fully deployed and automated using Jenkins pipelines and a Kubernetes cluster. Additionally, the team used a PostgreSQL database, but the application was kept independent from this by building a database access object to abstract the backend from database specifics. The front-end application is built in the React Native frontend framework. It is a fully functional application for both iOS and Android, and it is integrated with the RAIS financial backend.
