Description
I’ve found that OA publication is a great way to reach a large and interested international audience. In medical education, which is my field of interest, many international community members do not have the ability to subscribe to multiple expensive print journals. It is not unusual to get an email from a colleague in Peru or sub-Saharan Africa who wants to see a paper I have published in a print journal but can’t afford to purchase a copy. OA journals obviate this problem. I’ve also found OA editors collegial and friendly – they are interested in publishing work, not acting solely as gatekeepers.
