Abstract
Logistics costs have a tremendous impact on a company’s ability to maintain a competitive product pricing strategy. At Diamond Foods, freight costs account for 25% of the total operational expenditure, the majority of which is spent on servicing the consumer business. To ensure freight recovery, preparing an accurate logistics budget is essential. This report describes the process used in developing a freight budget and recovery model, by analyzing sales forecasts and order patterns of the consumer business. The results included determining the appropriate forward warehouses, optimum inventory levels, developing a customer level pricing strategy, and preparing an interactive Excel dashboard.
