Abstract
Increased ankle dorsiflexion can benefit several populations including the foot drop and elderly populations. Increasing dorsiflexion boosts foot clearance over obstacles, decreasing the tripping risk for these two populations. The MyQuest soft ankle foot orthosis (AFO) effectively increases foot dorsiflexion. However, its current installation is difficult, imprecise, and when done incorrectly limits AFO functionality discouraging potential users. This project developed a more efficient and simpler hardware installation process with an expandable shoe form and hole punching mechanism. Overall AFO performance was also improved via functional/material changes and the delivery packaging. Finally, a commercialization plan was developed for the MyQuest.
